Boots on the Ground
At Nuvau Minerals, we don’t hesitate to get our feet wet, literally, to explore our immense Matagami playground.

Here, the vegetation is dense, the swamps are deceptive, and the terrain rarely plays along. Field days sometimes end with little more than a few blisters as the only treasure brought back from the bush.

Matagami

High-resolution LiDAR changes the game. Thanks to these surveys (supplied by SIGEOM), we can finally pinpoint outcrops hidden under the spruces, buried in marshes, or tucked away in terrain that would otherwise be barely accessible.

Planning Safer, More Efficient Prospecting

This summer, Nuvau, in collaboration with Laurentia Exploration, launched an ambitious prospecting campaign in the central sector of the Matagami camp, an area known for its omnipresent wetlands, closed canopy, and scarce visible outcrops.

LiDAR helped us reveal what the eye cannot see, exposing the true topography beneath the forest cover, and highlighting:

  • New isolated outcrops
  • Subtle changes in slope
  • Structural lineaments and other meaningful geomorphological features

This approach guided teams toward the most promising areas while reducing unnecessary wandering in the bush and improving safety during field operations.

In addition to historical outcrops, numerous remote and off-trail sites were sampled, adding valuable data to a still largely underexplored portion of the camp, a territory spanning more than 1,300 km².

A Modern, Easy-to-Use, High-Impact Tool

In just a few images, digital terrain models, hillshades, slopes, roughness, and exposition shades provide a completely new reading of the district. The benefits are immediate:

  • Better preparation for field campaigns
  • More targeted prospecting
  • Maximized sample collection
  • Reduced risk and wasted time
  • Significantly enriched structural and geological datasets

No more wandering for hours under clouds of blackflies, hoping to stumble upon a lonely piece of rock. The geologist can now go straight to the target, like a fox on the trail.

LiDAR is now an essential tool in our exploration approach.
